Speedy FireFox

I love FireFox and wouldn't want to be without it!
I get irritated when using IE actually and it gave me some problems when browsing before.

FireFox is great and I love the tabbed browsing.
The only thing is that it takes longer to load. And that is annoying. But now I've found out how to speed up your Firely Little Fox.

It's really easy! I found this information over at Speed Up FireFox:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit enter.
Scroll down and look for the following entries:

  • network.http.pipelining
  • network.http.proxy.pipelining
  • network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

  • Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
  • Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
  • Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30.
This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts.

*** *** *** ***
I am not on a broadband connection but I noticed an increase in speed.
My maxrequest was on 4 and I put it to 30 to see if it made any difference and it did!

If you have any other FF tips, please share!

Great! I'll have to give that a try. I've never liked IE and rarely used it unless I had too, but I used to be a diehard netscape user. For a while I was using both firefox and netscape equally but when netscape had a huge server problem sometime around the end of Feb that cause a lot of browsers to not work as a result i totally switched to firefox. of the three it's certainly the fastest and now you're telling me I can make it even faster? Fantastic!

I know what you mean by being a netscape user, I used it some years ago and liked it very much.
Now I wouldn't want to change FF for anything :)

I hope that it works for you :)
