11 ideas on what to do when your Internet connection is not co-operating

As a web publisher I rely on a steady Internet connection. While I still belong to those on dial-up I am quite happy with my Internet speed, I have kind of learned to live with it. I am still searching for a good option to what I have but haven't found what I am looking for so far.

I have lost count of how many times I have had to re-dial today. I normally have a steady connection that can last a whole day but today it has been everything but co-operating. So what can you do when your Internet connection is not co-operating?

  • Let it go. When your irritation starts taking overhand you will not produce anything with quality so it is better you do something else.
  • Do something you have put off for a long time. It could be work related or home related. Get it done, you will feel better afterwards.
  • Work on your skills. Need to speed up your writing or work on your creative writing? Start a blank page and type away.
  • Look over your resume and writing samples. We can always better our resumes and samples, this is an excellent time without distractions.
  • Write articles that aren't asked for. By setting up writing templates or working on future articles you do yourself a favor.
  • Work on a new design or project. Everything you usually do online can start offline. Do what you have to do and connect later.
  • Go play with the dog. Or your kids, or perhaps read a book. Do something that isn't work related at all.
  • Prepare yourself for the next time your Internet connection doesn't co-operate. If you work on the above you will prepared for the next time you cannot get online. This includes pre-planning and posting as well as working on designs when you have the time. Let go of the procrastination!
  • Go through your blog or business plan. Do you have a plan? When was the last time you checked in on your blog to see where it is going? Planning offline is more productive than planning online. How can you improve your business?
  • Make a list of all your skills and what you need to improve. We are never fully learned, there will always be something you can improve in your area.
  • Make a dream list. What are your dreams? How do they fit in with your real life and business? If you find that you are not where you would like to be, and many of us are in that stage, think about how you can realize your dreams.

These are only eleven ideas for becoming  amore productive freelancer, of course there are many many more things you can do. What do you do when you cannot get online?
