Decorating for Christmas

Some people start decorating for Christmas the first of December. Others wait until the last few days. And some don't decorate at all. My mother in law belongs to the latter category. No special red curtains, no festive decorations. Perhaps she will put the Santa tablecloth on the kitchen table, the one she use all year around.

The first Christmas here in Brazil was a bit strange because I was used to decorating and making the house cozy especially for Christmas. This is our fourth Christmas in Brazil and our third Christmas at our own house and here I try to decorate a little more. I don't have a lot of decorative stuff but I do have some tablecloths that I only use for Christmas and a small plastic Christmas tree. Outside we don't have anything except the normal outdoor lighting. I think it is really nice to see how some decorate their house and add blinking lights around the house.

We wait for Christmas the whole year and when it finally arrives it passes too quickly. Therefore I advice you to enjoy Christmas the way it is. Don't worry if you haven't decorated too much, if you are behind with gifts and worrying about what food to put on the table. Spend some time with your family and enjoy this once a year opportunity to just relax.

How "obsessed" are you with Christmas decorating? Do you feel Christmas is becoming more or less important as each year go by?
